You should wait. Turf Builder Weed & Feed has a weed killer that soaks in through the leaves. You want at least 24 hours with this product on the weed leaves before rain or traffic disturbs it.

It's typically best to start applying fertilizers to your lawn after the first mowing of the season. Once the lawn has been mowed apply lime then apply Turf Builder with Halts and water the lawn. This can all be done on the same day. Follow-up 6 to 8 weeks later with the application of Turf Builder Weed & Feed.

Question

Application and Frequency

Applied Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass on March 31, 2013. The yard now looks like a lawn. However, there are new broadleaf weeds and clover growing up in a number of spots. What would be a great and immediate solution? And what would be a great follow-up or next step to your solution. Thanks in advance.

You can apply Turf Builder Weed and Feed six to eight weeks after applying Turf Builder with Halts. Keep in mind that for weed killers to work the high temperatures for the day need to be hitting between sixty-five and eigthy-five degrees. This has to happen consistently every day after applying the product.

You will be able to sod or plant seed four months after treating an area with Scotts Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer. Because crabgrass preventers are formulated to keep your lawn crabgrass-free by preventing the crabgrass seeds from becoming established, desirable grass seeds will also be prevented from establishment. If you are planting larger areas of bluegrass, rye, or fescue seed, you may wish to use our Turf Builder Starter Fertilizer with Crabgrass Preventer or Step One for Seeding. These products have a different active ingredient that will prevent the establishment of crabgrass without hurting northern grass types. However, it does not last for four months, so we do recommend a follow up with Halts after six weeks. You need to wait 6 - 8 weeks between fertilizer applications so refrain from putting down any other fertilizer during that period.

Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control is registered for use on both Bermuda and Fescue grass, however, this should not be applied until your grass is 100% green this spring.

If you are looking to fill in bare spots with Fescue, I recommend that you use Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue.

If you plan on using Scotts Turf Builder with Plus 2 Weed Control this spring, you will not be able to seed with the Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue for at least 4 weeks after the application.

In spring on Bahia we suggest waiting until after at least the second mowing before fertilizing. This is to ensure that the grass is actively growing. To obtain the best control of your weeds we suggest not mowing at least two days before your application and waiting at least 24 hours after the application before watering the product in, allowing it to dry, and then mowing.

We recommend keeping children and dogs out of the lawn for 24 hours as the weed control absorbs into the weed leaves. After 24 hours, it is ideal to have rain or water wash the granules off the weed leaves and allow grass to dry before reentry.

Question

Scotts Plus 2...next?

Last weekend, I applied Scotts Plus 2 to my lawn. It has lots of henbit, not covered, but a lot of it.

It doesn't look like the henbit was affected, but after more reading, I think the henbit will go away later in the spring anyway.

But my real question is, do I have to wait another 6 weeks to apply the turf builder (without Plus 2)? Or, can I feed it again sooner?

This product works best when the weeds are actively growing. Usually that means the night temperatures are staying above 50 and the daytime highs are below 85. Unfortunately, it does not prevent dandelions. It will only kill weeds that are present and in an active growth stage when it is applied.
