Both grass seed blends will grow well in your area. The Snap Sun & Shade Mix contains Kentucky bluegrass, rye and fescue. While the Snap Tall Fescue is a mix of tall fescues. It is best to be consistent, so you the same grass seed that you have in your existing lawn.

If seed has begun the germination process and this process was halted; either from lack of water, herbicide use or other other environmental circumstances, then that seed will not be viable and you may need to reseed this area when you can maintain the conditions required for the seed to grow.

After overseeding, it is best to wait to mow until after a rain or heavy watering. This allows the new seeds to be pushed down more firmly into the soil. Otherwise, mow the mature lawn as needed.

The best time to seed is in the late summer or early fall, after the heat has passed but at least 45 days before you expect a frost. The cooling air, frequent rains, and warm soil all combine to create the perfect growing conditions.

Waiting to seed after an herbicide depends on which weed killer was used. Some, like RoundUp, will allow you to re-seed after only a week. Others, like weed and feed products, may need a month. It is always a good idea to check the label if you are not certain.

Technically areas that have been seeded with the Snap PAC Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix can be reentered immediately. For the benefit of establishing a new lawn, traffic should be minimixed until the lawn becomes fully established.

We suggest waiting to seed after the party.

Question

New lawn - seeding twice the recommended amount on bag?

I have a new lawn and been told by quite a few neighbors that if I seed Sun & Shade Mix Grass Seed with hand held spreader setting 5 one day; rake a little, then water it for two days followed by another spreading again with hand held spreader setting 5 followed by keeping the soil moist for about 7 days, that works best. My question was is the second seeding mentioned above a good idea for a new lawn or is it just redundant?
Thanks,

This specific product is to applied by using the Snap Spreader system only. Other Scotts Turf Builder grass seed products will typically have an overseeding rate and a new lawn rate depending on the which application your project calls for. These applications should only need to be applied once at the correct rate.

Directly spead on the lawn. Insert the Snap product bag into the spreader and it's ready to use. There isn't any way to add any additional products to the spreader other than Scotts Snap products.

answer 2
When seeding a new area, we suggest preparing the planting area by loosening the top layer of soil and/or applying a thin layer of additional lawn soil prior to applying the grass seed. If you plan on overseeding an existing lawn with this product, we suggest mowing the lawn shorter than usual, aerating or dethatching the existing lawn prior to overseeding.

Scotts Snap Sun & Shade Mix is a good blend of cool season grasses for a northern lawn, but we don't recommend it for your area. If you want a Snap seed product, you might be able to use Snap Tall Fescue Mix Grass Seed.

For more information on choosing a grass seed, you might try our selector tool: http://www.scotts.com/smg/templates...

Turf Builder Bonus S is only compatible with St. Augustine, zoysia, and centipede lawns.
