Customer questions and answers for Products Ortho® Dial 'N Spray® Multi-Use Hose-End Sprayer

Question

What is the dial setting

I've always used Bayer advanced Fungus control but the throw away sprayer is wasteful. I've purchased the active ingredient which is propiconazole. In the throw away bottle there is 32 ounces of liquid of that 32 ounces only 1 ounce is propiconazole plus 1 ounce of a sufacant. The Bayer product says it will cover 5,000 sq. ft. I hope this is enough information to tell me what the dial setting should be. Thanks

The dial settings indicate the dilution rate of the product. For example, if you set the dial at 1 teaspoon, the Dial N Spray will mix 1 teaspoon of the product with one gallon of water. If you are unclear about the dilution rate of the product, you may want to contact the manufacturer for more information.

The Dial N Spray can be used to apply concentrated mixes at the following dilution rates per gallon: 1 teaspoon (tsp), 1½ tsp, 2 tsp, 1 Tablespoon (Tbs), 4 tsp, 1oz (2 Tbs), 1½ oz, 2oz, 2½ oz, 3oz, 4oz, 5 1/3 oz, 6oz and 8oz.

1. Pour concentrated product into DNS Jar and screw jar onto sprayer
2. Set dial to desired dilution rate found on product label (tbls/gallon or oz/gallon).
3. Attach sprayer to hose, turn on water and spray
4. Once done, if product is left in jar can simply pour it back into its original container since no water was added to it

Question

How can I use a powdered product with the dial N spray?

I have some powdered water soluble fertilizer I need to use up. The product directions are 1 tablespoon Per gallon .

The directions I read online were to set the dial at 4 ounces. Then mix 1 tablespoon plus 4 ounces of water in order to spray 1 gallon.

Example: to spray 5 gallons of product I would mix five tablespoons of fertilizer and 20 ounces of water and spray at a rate of 4 ounces per gallon.
Is this correct?

Yes, that is exactly right. The most you can spray using this method is 8 gallons of spray, because the container has a 32 ounce capacity. The least you should spray this way is two gallons, because the sprayer needs to be at least 1/4 full to start siphoning.

Question

Using dial n spray with Ground Clear?

I use Ground Clear every year. Use it in a heavily weeded area in back of yard, about 400 sq ft. I use a cannister sprayer and saturate the ground after I cut the weed's for the first time in mid to late spring. How would I use/set the dial n spray with this product? Never used a dial and spray before. Thanks! CliffHen

The highest setting on the Ortho Dial N Spray is 8 ounces per gallon. The Ortho Ground Clear Concentrate requires a dilution rate of 1 quart (32 ounces) per gallon, which is unfortunately outside of the range of the Ortho Dial N Spray.

The setting that the Ortho Dial N Spray is set to will be the rate of concentrate mixed per gallon of water. Please note that there are sometimes duplicate numbers with separate units for instance (1 tsp, 1 Tbs, and 1 oz), so it is important to read the units as well as the quantity of the units to figure out the final dilution rate. The maximum dilution rate that the Ortho Dial N Spray can achieve is 8 ounces per gallon. If you have further questions regarding the use of this product please feel free to contact us at 1-877-465-5160.

Question

What does a dial setting of 1 oz. actually mean?

Does a setting of 1 ounce mean I only put one ounce of concentrate in the sprayer or does it mean the solution is dispersed at 1 ounce per 1000 square feet?

If I am using a concentrated liquid that says one ounce will cover 1000 square feet and I put 5 ounces in the sprayer, should I set the dial at 1 or 5?

The settings on the Dial N Spray are used to set the final dilution rate of the product being applied. A setting of 1 ounce on the dial spray means that the concentrate from the jar is being mixed at one ounce per gallon of water.

The coverage of the product is determined by the product being applied, and is not changed by the dial. Most products should have an indication as to how much area per gallon of final solution you should be covering.

The siphon tube should remain in the sprayer while the the product is being used. Unfortunately, we are not sure what is causing the siphon tube to come loose in your circumstance. Please contact us to see what we can do, as we do have replacement parts available for this unit. 1-877-465-5160
